No company registration, no documents to upload, and no waiting to be approved. Your ID number and a bank account is the whole list, and nothing to install on your site. If you’re still selling by EFT and proof of payment because you never finished a payment provider’s form, this is for you.
Nothing is charged until a customer pays. Your rate is agreed with you once we know what you sell and what it is worth — it is not the same for every business.
Why this works
You don’t become a merchant. We already are one.
Handover is set up with TradeSafe, who are regulated and authorised to hold money on other people’s behalf. The underwriting happened once, to us. You sell as a party on our transactions, so the only thing anyone needs from you is somewhere to pay the money out to.
To take cards the normal way
Company registration, or ID plus proof you trade
Verification documents, uploaded and checked
Underwriting — which can decline you outright
Days to weeks of waiting
Monthly fees on some providers, before you sell anything
Then: API keys, a plugin, a checkout page that works
Most people never finish
To take one through Handover
An email address
Your ID number
The bank account you want paying
That’s the whole list — live in minutes
TradeSafe is regulated, so they’re required to know who they’re paying — that’s the ID number. A sole trader uses their own; no company registration is needed.
Not sure which of these you are? Tell us what you sell and we’ll tell you straight whether this is worth it for you.
Escrow is the same either way. What changes is whether we move the goods, and therefore whether your customer pays a fare on top.
Escrow checkout
Available now
Take the money. Send the goods yourself.
Your customer pays into escrow with TradeSafe, so they're covered before they've met you.
You post, courier or hand over the order however you already do.
They confirm with a four-digit PIN and the money lands in your account.
Escrow with delivery
Coming soon
We collect from you and deliver to them.
The Courier Guy collects from your door and delivers to the customer's.
The fare is quoted from live rates and passed through at cost — Handover adds nothing to it.
Tracking runs against the same sale, and the PIN still releases the money.
Delivery on its own, without escrow, isn’t something we offer. We buy courier at cost and pass it through at cost — reselling it with nothing added would put us in a business we’d be worse at than the shipping aggregators who already do it.
How it reaches your customer
A link today, or a gateway in your own site.
A payment link works today, needs no website at all, and costs nothing to try. If you would rather your customers never leave your own checkout, we build the gateway into it with you — at a rate agreed with you, and usually in days rather than weeks.
A payment link
Available now
Nothing to install, nothing to integrate.
One link per thing you sell, reusable by any number of customers.
Paste it on a product page, in a bio, in a WhatsApp reply, on an invoice.
Every customer who opens it gets their own escrow and their own PIN.
A checkout button
On request
A snippet you paste into your own page.
Keeps your customer on your site until the moment they pay.
Your link underneath, styled to match — no keys and no server code.
Tell us where it's going and we'll send you the snippet to paste in.
Name what you’re selling and set a price. That’s the form, and you fill it once.
02
Send it to anyone
On a product page, in your bio, in a WhatsApp reply. The same link works for every customer, and each one gets their own escrow.
03
They pay by card
The money goes to TradeSafe, a regulated escrow provider. Not to you, and not to Handover.
04
You’re paid
They confirm they’ve got it, and the money lands in your account. If something’s wrong they say so instead, and it stays where it is.
The honest part
What this costs you, and what it doesn’t do
You wait to be paid
Escrow releases when your customer confirms they have their order. That’s the trade: they’re willing to pay a business they don’t know because the money isn’t yours until they say so.
We cost more than a card gateway
If you already have PayFast or Yoco, keep them — they’re cheaper and they pay out faster. This is for selling when the alternative isn’t a cheaper gateway, it’s an EFT that half your customers never send.
We never hold your money
It sits with TradeSafe and is paid to you directly. Handover never stores your banking details and never touches the funds.
What it costs
We agree a rate with you.
A shop selling one R80,000 machine a month and a shop selling forty R400 orders are not the same business, and one number on a page can only be right for one of them. So there isn’t one. Tell us what you sell and roughly how often, and we’ll come back with a rate.
Nothing until a customer pays
No monthly fee, no setup fee, and nothing to cancel. If nobody buys anything, Handover costs you nothing at all.
One rate, quoted before you start
You know what you’ll pay on every order before the first one goes out, and your customer sees the full total before they pay — including TradeSafe’s own processing fee.
It moves as you grow
Volume changes the arithmetic for both of us. If what you sell changes, tell us and we’ll look at it again rather than leaving you on a rate that stopped fitting.
Selling privately rather than as a business? That is priced publicly and never negotiated — see the fees on the main page.
Your first link takes about two minutes.
Nothing is charged until a customer pays. If you’d rather we set the first one up for you, send us what you’re selling and we’ll do it by hand.
